Stolen car arrest made
Ceres Cop Car

Despite the fact that he ran from an approaching officer on Sunday evening, Feb. 25, Juan Garcia, 30, of Ceres, told police that the stolen car he had been driving was given to him by a prostitute earlier in the evening.

Police saw through his ruse of claiming to be unaware the car silver-colored Mazda was stolen and booked him for vehicle theft and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Officer Matt Berlier was on patrol in the 1900 block of Darrah Street at 11:19 p.m. when he saw the Mazda, ran the plate as he passed by and discovered it had been stolen in Sonora. He turned around to approach three men in the car as all were quickly walking from it. The three men scattered in different directions but Berlier was able to detain one. Additional officers arrived and searched the area, locating the other two men.
