Stolen motorhome recovered
Ceres Cop Car

Ceres Police recovered a stolen motorhome Thursday evening and arrested two persons believed responsible for its theft.

Officer Eric Souza was rolling through the area of Morgan Road and Marchy Lane at 10:01 p.m. when he ran a license check on a 2013 Fleetwood motorhome. He learned that it was a stolen vehicle, and made a high-risk stop on the occupants in the Quik Stop parking lot at Service and Morgan roads. Driver Everett Ball, 53, of Tulsa, Okla., and passenger Jacqueline Markley, 30, of Modesto, were detained.

Ball said he had been sleeping in the RV for two days while in town for a funeral and claimed the motorhome belonged to a friend named "Larry" who lives at a trailer park on Crows Landing. Ball claimed he was just giving Markley a ride to get gas. Officer Souza noticed there were no keys in the ignition and Ball said he started the vehicle with a screwdriver.

Markley was questioned and told police she believed the RV belonged to Ball and that he has been parked in front of a friend's house for a week. She said she had no idea how Ball was starting the vehicle and they were coming from a friend's house.

The registered owner of the RV said it had been stolen from a Tracy storage yard in April and they have the only keys to it. Ball and Markley were both arrested and booked into Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for felony auto theft and possession of stolen property.
