A mentally unstable man was arrested Friday evening after he was seen trying to light his pants on fire while sitting in the Ceres Police Department lobby.

Justin McBride, 31, of Ceres, showed up outside the police headquarters on Third Street at 11:20 p.m. and pressed the call button and announcing he wanted to hurt himself. Dispatchers allowed him inside. As he waited for officers, he was seen trying to light his pants on fire with a lighter. McBride was taken to the ground and detained.

He was placed by authorities on a mental health evaluation.
