A 17-year-old boy was arrested early Monday morning after he led police on a high-speed pursuit in a stolen car.

At 12:18 p.m., Sgt. Darren Venn attempted to stop a white Honda Accord after he observed the 17-year-old driver blow through a stop sign at Magnolia and Ninth streets. The driver ignored Sgt. Venn’s emergency lights and siren and accelerated to prompt a pursuit through the south side of Ceres, and into the county area of Central Avenue. The suspect turned eastbound onto Monte Vista Avenue and then northbound onto Faith Home Road. During the pursuit, the vehicle began to smoke heavily and came to a stop on Faith Home Road at Redwood Avenue.

The driver was ordered from the vehicle and arrested. The unidentified teen was in possession of a shaved key and stated that the vehicle was stolen. The vehicle had not been reported as stolen and efforts to locate the owner of the vehicle were unsuccessful. The suspect faces auto theft charges once the owner is located and verifies that the vehicle was stolen.

The driver was booked into Juvenile Hall and faces charges of evading an officer, driving the wrong way while evading an officer and possession of burglary tools.
