A report of two males vandalizing a Hyundai Elantra in the 3800 block of Podocarpus Drive on Thursday afternoon resulted in the arrest of two teenagers who face a variety of criminal charges.

By the time police arrived after the 12:41 p.m. call, the teens were tracked to the Della Apartments at 3100 Whitmore Avenue where more vandalism occurred.

As officers were searching for the suspects, they were flagged down by another victim, informing them that her Kia Soul had been stolen from the apartment complex. Officers began a search for the stolen car and located it in the area of Winmore Way near Crows Landing Road.

As Officer Charles Lord-Huff approached the vehicle, one teen began running away while another juvenile male remained in the car and was arrested. The second teen was located nearby and also arrested.

Both were arrested on charges of auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle and conspiracy to commit a crime. The teen who fled on foot was also charged with resisting arrest.

Police determined that both boys were responsible for the initial vandalism on Podocarpus Drive and were additionally charged with vandalism, attempted auto theft and conspiracy.

The Modesto teens, aged 13 and 15, were booked into Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall. Their names were not released because of a state law protecting the identities of minors who are arrested.
