Two persons inside a car stopped Thursday evening for vehicle code violations ended up being arrested for possession of fentanyl with the intent to sell.

At 7:29 p.m., Officer Angel Diaz was patrolling the 1300 block of Hatch Road when he stopped the driver of a Toyota 4-Runner. A records check informed the officer that the driver, Juan Ramos, 41, of Ceres, had a warrant for his arrest related to shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested and the car was searched, which turned up a white powdery substance believed to be fentanyl on the driver side of the vehicle as well as in a purse of passenger Jade Sheppard, 20, of Modesto.

Because of the scale found, a roll of tinfoil and the amount of suspected fentanyl located, both Ramos and Sheppard were arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell. Both were booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center.
