Two arrested in stop of DUI suspect
Officer smells pot during traffic stop
Abel Ochoa and Heather Clemins
Abel Ochoa and Heather Clemins were both arrested in a July 28 traffic stop.

A Salida man and a Ceres woman were arrested on different charges in an early Tuesday, July 28 traffic stop.

At 2:15 a.m., Officer Adam Hall noticed a Lexus sedan traveling westbound on Fowler Road with no head or lights on. Officer Hall stopped the vehicle as it pulled into the Las Casitas Mobile Home Park in the 2800 block of Fowler Road.

The officer could smell the car reeking of marijuana and the smell of alcohol on the breath of driver Abel Ochoa, 27, of Salida. He was uncooperative with a DUI investigation and arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Passenger Heather Clemins, 19, of Ceres, became upset over Ochoa’s arrest and the vehicle being towed and, after being denied six repeated demands that she be allowed to speak to Ochoa handcuffed in the back of a patrol car, she ignored the officer and approached Ochoa anyway. She was arrested and booked for obstructing a police officer.
