One man was arrested after two people sustained gunshot wounds during a Saturday afternoon shooting in the parking lot of the El Rematito Flea Market at 3113 Crows Landing Road.

Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots in what appeared to be a gang-related gun battle between at least two suspects who ran from the area after the shooting.

Two persons were injured in the shooting and were treated by area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. One of the shooting suspects was detained during a traffic stop in Modesto shortly after the shooting. Ceres Police detectives arrested Giovanni Ayala, 19, of Modesto. Police also seized a firearm in his vehicle.

Ayala was being held in Stanislaus County Jail on attempt murder charges with a $500,000 bail.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Ceres Police Department or Detective Bryan Ferreira at 538-5616.
