A  21-year-old auto theft suspect from Waterford was arrested by Ceres Police after a short vehicle pursuit early Saturday.

Officer Kevin Roseen was on patrol at 3:11 a.m. in the area of El Camino Avenue and Fourth Street when he spotted a white-colored Infinity FX35 headed northbound on Highway 99. Learning that a car matching that description had been reported as stolen, Officer Roseen accelerated to catch up to the vehicle and confirmed it was the same stolen car. Officer Roseen attempted to stop the driver at the South Ninth Street exit. Driver Devin Kenedy, 21, of Waterford initially pulled to the shoulder and then accelerated away on northbound Highway 99 and finally exited at the Crows Landing Road exit. At the end of the off-ramp, Kenedy and an unidentified passenger bailed on foot. Officer Roseen ran after Kenedy and made an arrest.

A search of the vehicle turned up a backpack containing burglary tools.

Kenedy was arrested and booked on charges of auto theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest and evading a peace officer.
