Woman driver defies police during erratic drive
Ceres Cop Car

A 63-year-old woman refused to get out of her car after officers pulled her over Friday evening after watching her make dangerous moves.

Officers Ross Bays and Jon Vera individually observed a small pickup being driven erratically in the area of Whitmore Avenue and Mitchell Road as it nearly hit other vehicles. At 10:29 p.m. the officers tried to pull the pickup over but the driver, Delois Belcher, 63, of Ceres, kept driving westbound on Whitmore Avenue as she weaved across lanes of traffic.

When she stopped for a red light at Ninth Street and Whitmore Avenue, Officer Vera pulled in behind her while Bays blocked her from the front. They spoke to Belcher who refused to get out of her vehicle. The officers had to cut the seatbelt in order to remove Belcher from the pickup.

She was arrested for misdemeanor evading of a police officer and resisting arrest.

Ceres Police Department spokesman Lt. Chris Perry said Belcher did not appear to be under the influence. Officers were unsure of any medical or mental issues.
