Ceres cadet honored

Michael Thompson, 12, of Ceres, was awarded the Navy Sea Cadet of the Year and several other awards recently by the Naval Sea Cadet Corps Princeton Division in Turlock.

The award was based on community service and participation in many unit events, advancements in rank, and training. Michael has been involved with the Ceres Woman's Club and service food for the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).

Michael received the Graduation certificate for boot, Honor Division for boot, Community Service certificate for helping the Ceres Womens Club on garage sales and the Christmas boutique, Academic certificate for getting excellent grades in school, and Second Year in the cadets. He received the Theodore Roosevelt Youth Medal for honoring the late president's energy, spirit, competition and fair play. He also received recognition from local elected officials.
