Residents of the unincorporated rural community of the Monterey Park Tract southwest of Ceres took advantage of a county sponsored community clean up held May 20.

From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., residents were able to dispose of bulky items and other assorted pieces of trash by bringing them to dumpsters set up at the Monterey Tract Park Community Center and local church. The effort filled four 40-yard dumpsters.

Helping to toss items into the dumpster were District 5 Stanislaus County Supervisor Channce Condit, Monterey Tract Park Community Service District Board President Shirley Martinez and community members Jerry and Milton Jordon.

In an effort to cut down on illegal dumps within District 5, Supervisor Condit has been arranging with county staff to identify funds to underwrite the costs of clean-ups.

“Residents across District 5 have made it clear this type of service is a priority for their community and it’s great to see them take advantage of this opportunity,” said Condit. “It enhances our community pride and discourages illegal dumps.”

This was the 12th clean-up for the unincorporated area of the county in 23 months with another one happening in the Parklawn community of south Modesto in June.
