Firefighters make quick work of Alamo Avenue fire

A total of 24 firefighters spent 90 minutes battling a Monday afternoon fire which broke out in a vacant small residential unit in the 1000 block of Alamo Avenue in south Modesto.

Modesto Regional Fire Battalion Chief Randy Anderson said the fire broke out at 3:22 p.m. and the first units were on scene within three minutes. Smoke and flames were coming from the windows of the small building, estimated in size to be about 850 square feet. The home is located behind a main residence. Ceres firefighters joined in and the fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes.
