Arrrrr. Children in Keyes were treated to a number of pirate related events at the Keyes Library on Thursday afternoon in celebration of the International "Talk like a Pirate Day" on Friday.
There was no walking of the plank but the library hosted a pirate hate making craft out of construction paper, a pin-the eyepatch on the pirate game with prizes, a pirate trivia contest and the loaning of books on pirates. Those who took the trivia quiz learned that not all pirate flags are black, that Blackbeard's name was actually Edward Teach, that Anne Bonney was a famous female pirate, and that the Jolly Roger is the name for any flag flown to identify a ship's crew as pirates who were about to attack.
During October the Keyes Library will be offering several fun, festive, and seasonal events.
Persons of any age are welcome to participate in the "Creepy Candy Count" from Oct. 1 to Oct. 29. During this time, participants may guess the number of candies in the jar. The closest guess will win the entire jar of candy.
