Man, 21, dies in solo crash
• Honda veers into concrete bridge on Carpenter Road
Crash

A solo crash in a rural southwest of Ceres proved deadly for a 21-year-old Modesto man Monday afternoon.

The dead driver was identified as Alverto Rodriguez.

At approximately 4:50 p.m. the California Highway Patrol received multiple calls about a 1995 Honda Civic crashed into the concrete wall of a bridge over a canal on S. Carpenter Road north of Monte Vista Avenue. Officers responded and found that Rodriguez was northbound at an unknown speed when for unknown reasons the Honda veered to the right into the dirt shoulder. The car then collided into a concrete bridge wall and land in a canal, partially submerged in water. The driver remained in the Honda until he was removed by emergency personnel.

Paramedics rushed the victim to Doctors Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 5:43 p.m.

It does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor.

The driver was wearing his seatbelt at the time of this collision.
