Stephaughn Meux, 29, was sentenced by Judge Linda McFadden to eight years in state prison for the rape of an adult and injuring a child in Mancini Park in 2012.
Deputy District Attorney Merrill Hoult prosecuted the case against Meux.
On October 18, 2012, the adult victim took her children to Mancini Park in Modesto at approximately 2 p.m. The victim was holding her year-old daughter in her arms and was watching her eight-year-old son play with other children when Meux approached near the baseball diamond. He grabbed the victim and violently forced her to the ground causing her to drop the baby. Meux punched the woman in the face multiple times as she attempted to fight back. He then held the victim down and forcibly raped her.
Another woman who was a witness grabbed the woman's children and ushered them to safety while she ran to Herndon Avenue to summon help. It was minutes before the Good Samaritan could find someone with a phone to call police.
Meux entered a no contest plea on Feb. 20 and admitted that he had served a prior prison term.
Meux will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from state prison.
