These three young men from Ceres have been chosen to participate in the 2014 Boys State as delegates.

Francisco Corey of Ceres High School, and Andrew Brekke and Jorge Alvarez, both of Central Valley High School will participate in the American Legion's Boys State, a participatory program in which students become part of mock operations of local, county and state government.

High school boys compete for selection through their school and Legion criteria.

The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments.

Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.

All expenses for the program delegates are covered by the Ceres post of the American Legion.

Some 25,000 boys attend Boys State in their respective states each year. Past Boys State graduates include President Bill Clinton, Garth Brooks and Jon Bon Jovi.
