A woman died when she was struck early Friday morning while walking in the 2900 block of Mitchell Road.

The victim, who was wearing all dark clothing, was struck at approximately 2:31 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene after officers and emergency medical personnel attempted to resuscitate her. She has been identified but her name was not released until her family has been notified.

The northbound driver did not see the woman in the road and stopped immediately after the two collided.

Northbound Mitchell Road was closed between Colleen Road and Roeding Road as the Ceres Police Traffic Unit conducted a fatal traffic collision investigation. The Traffic Unit concluded a preliminary investigation at the scene around 6 a.m. at which time the roadway was re-opened.
