Party ordered for CHS' centennial

The first class to enter CHS was in September, 1908. The Ceres High School Centennial Planning Committee has been busy putting together a big celebration. The celebration will start on Friday, Sept. 12 with a football game honoring alumni and will conclude with an Athletic Hall of Fame on Sept. 14 honoring alumni athletes. This weekend will be designated as a CHS All Alumni Reunion.

On Sept. 12, Ceres High Bulldogs will be pitted against Davis HS. Persons who bring their CHS yearbook, and old ID card to prove a CHS alumnist can get into the game for $1. Special seating will be available in the west end zone for classes from the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s. An end zone party will be held under the trees by the concession stand so plan to meet up with classmates. Commemorative cups, T-shirts, pins, pens, and the 100 year book will be available for purchase.

A Centennial Birthday Celebration and Program will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13 in the CHS amphitheater. After the program will be tours, cake/punch and a chicken barbeque provided by the Lions Club. Tickets for the barbeque are $8 each and will include chicken, beans, salad, and roll. Tickets can be purchased in the CHS Doghouse, CHS main office, or online through the web store after August 1. Commemorative items will also be available for sale.

A Sept. 13 Alumni Dinner/Dance will be held at the American Legion Hall. Dinner, dancing, prizes, and a no-host cocktail bar will take place from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and available after Aug. 1 in the CHS Doghouse, main office, or online through the web store. Commemorative items will be available for sale.

CHS athletes from the classes of 1948 through 1998 will be honored at a Sunday, Sept. 14 Athletic Hall of Fame event. The 2 p.m. event will be held in the Phil de la Porte Gym. A reception will follow. Tickets are $5 per person to attend and tickets will be available after August 1 in the Doghouse, main office, or online through the Web Store.

The committee is in need of yearbooks for the following years: 1909, 1918, 1919, 1920, 1921, 1922, 1933, 1943, 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1969. Call Linda Cooper at 556-1920, ext. 5380 if you are willing to donate any of the above yearbooks to the Library or any other paraphernalia.
