Graveside services were held Friday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Billy Joe Manley, 76, of Hughson. He died July 13, 2008 after a long battle with diabetes.
Born Jan. 8, 1932 in in Eufaula, Okla., to Ezell and Velta Manley, Billy Joe moved to California. He was a graduate of Hughson High School, where he met and married his wife Lois Manley. He served as a sergeant first class for the Army during the Korean War. Mr. Manley came back from the war and was a press operator at American Can Company for 30 years.
He is survived by his two children, Lori Hedrick and Joey Manley, both of Hughson; his mother, Velta Grissom; his sisters Lavenia Wilson of Hughson and Janice Sweet of Turlock; his grandchildren, Amanda Sheppard and Jeremy Sheppard of Chowchilla, Michelle Manley of Denair, Matt Allinson of Empire, and Aaron Allinson of Hughson; and great-grandson, Grant Sheppard of Chowchilla. He was proceeded in death by his loving wife Lois Manley, father Ezell Manley and grandson Robby Hedrick.
