A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lakewood Memorial Park for Della Alwine Adelman Combs, 105, of Hughson. She died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 at her home.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Allen Mortuary in Turlock.
Born June 12, 1899, Mrs. Combs was a native of Syracuse, Neb., and had lived in Hughson since 1937. She was a homemaker. The county Board of Supervisors named her Citizen of the Year, and the Hughson Historical Society honored her at the age of 103. Mrs. Combs was a member and past president of Hughson Senior Citizens and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7762 Ladies Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Gratton Grange, Rebekah Lodge, and First Baptist Church. During World War II, Mrs. Combs volunteered as an airplane spotter, took first aid training and rolled bandages. She enjoyed making quilts.
Mrs. Combs leaves behind five children, Frank Combs, Delpha Cocke and Homer Combs, all of Hughson, Bernard Combs of Los Altos and Hayden Combs of Hawthorn, Nev.; and 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 25 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
