Born March 26, 1923, Mrs. Boehnlein was a longtime resident of Palm Desert, and moved to Hughson's Samaritan Village in 2005 to be closer to her daughters. She was born and raised in Owensboro, Ky., where she attended and was a star pole vaulter for the track team at Owensboro High School. Her first husband, Roland, enlisted in the Army and was shipped out to Germany, Della packed up their daughter Jackie and moved to Richmond to live with in-laws. She worked at the Richmond shipyards. Upon Roland's return from war, they moved to Oakland where they lived until 1955. Together with their three daughters they built a new home in Alaska which provided shelter for seven families after the 1964 Anchorage earthquake. They returned to the Bay Area and Della was employed by Capwells-Emporium in Hayward for 17 years, retiring in 1980. They relocated to Palm Desert where Della enjoyed hosting parties for friends, swimming, daily exercise classes, but playing the organ.

After Roland's death in 1982, Della met and later married Robert Boehnlein in 1989. They traveled extensively before he was stricken with Alzheimer's and she became his caretaker until his 2000 death.

She leaves behind her daughters, Jacqueline Wenstrand of Turlock, Sandra Hartzie Law of San Jose, Georgeann Crowe of Turlock; her sister, Rosita Carroll; four grandchildren, Michael and Helen Kamali Wenstrand, Sarah Wenstrand, Brandon Crowe, Darron Crowe; and one great-grandchild, Lola Wenstrand.
