A graveside will be held at Lakewood Memorial Park on Saturday for Donald James Scranton, 87, of Hughson. He died Jan. 14, 2011 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson.

Born Nov. 20, 1923 to Irwin and Vivien Scranton, Don was raised in Hughson. In 1943 after graduating from high school he met future wife Elizabeth "Betty." Two weeks later he enlisted in the Navy and served for two years during World War II. In 1945 after being discharged and married Betty. The two returned to Hughson where they raised their two children, Terry and Randy. Mr. Scranton owned and operated Scratch's Drive-In. He also worked as a carpenter, and as a cannery field representative.

He leaves behind his son, Terry Scranton; his daughter, Randy Fannon; three grandchildren, Jennifer Herb, Jaime Tyler, and Calvert Soares; and two great-grandchildren, Eli Tyler and Naomi Tyler. He was preceded in death by his wife.
