Elizabeth Scranton

A celebration of her life was held on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Modesto for Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Scranton, 86, of Hughson. She died Feb. 1, 2009.

Born Sept. 1, 1922, to Blanch and William Robinson, Betty grew up and went to school in Mohall, N.D. After high school she worked in the Western Union Telegraph Office. She met and married Carl "Murphy" Scranton in 1956 in Minneapolis, Minn. In 1965 they moved to Hughson where Betty was a homemaker and active in the PTA. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and poured her energy into raising her children. Betty loved loved reading books and passed that love along to her children. Mrs. Scranton was a member of First Baptist Church in Hughson and loved to sing in the choir.

She leaves behind six children, Robin Scranton of Virginia Beach, Va., Diana Erickson of Tacoma, Wash., Roger Scranton of Vallejo, Tammy Scranton of Modesto, Carla Loveland of Texas and Rea Simms of Oregon; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Murphy in 1978, by her parents and 12 brothers and sisters.
