A Celebration of Life will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 14 at the Stockton Sailing Club Terrace (at the West end of March Lane), Buckley Cove in Stockton, for Floyd L. Magnus, 84, of South Modesto. He died May 12, 2009.

Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon was in charge of arrangements.

Born Sept. 23, 1924 in Fresno to Floyd W. and Ronna Louise Magnus, Floyd graduated from Turlock High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II (1943-45) on the troop carriers APA Arthur Middleton and LST 23 in the South Pacific. Mr. Magnus enjoyed telling one-line jokes and sharing life stories of working as a truck shop foreman for John Ingalls/United Foods, racing his own Sprint/Roadster in many NARC, ARA and CRA races in 1945-64, to his days of being part of the pit crew at Indianapolis Speedway. He was in the 1964 Indy 500 for the Travelon Trailer Special race car. He was also a rider/mechanic on board for the Pacific One Design speed race boat. He enjoyed his affiliations with the Stockton Sailing Club, Stockton's Jackass Junction Auto Shop and Escalon Donut Shop's 80+ group.

He leaves his long time companion, Sandy Wild and her family; his children, Randy Magnus, Darrell Magnus, and Marlaine Cox; and two grandchildren, Matt Cox and Shanna Cox. He was preceded in death by wife Betty Magnus.
