Private services were held at Arroyo Grande District Cemetery for George Herman Allen, 74, of Ceres. He died Jan. 20, 2009.
Born Aug. 17, 1934 in Lewisville, Texas to Lloyd and Nell Allen, Herman spent most of his childhood in Dos Palos. He served in the Army from 1957 through 1959, mostly in Berlin, Germany. Herman was a member of the Laborers Union and worked construction for the Guy F. Atkins Co. of South San Francisco for many years. Notable projects he worked on were the Dumbarton Bridge, Turimiquire Dam in Venezuela and Colbun Dam in Chile. A resident of Stanislaus County for the past 18 years, he was an avid reader and fisherman.
He leaves behind two sons, Steve Allen of Turlock and David Allen of Atwater; two brothers, Lloyd Allen and Odis Allen of Dos Palos; his parents, Nell and Lloyd Allen; his stepfather, Golden Allen; three step-siblings Sherman, Gladys and Donna; and three grandchildren Bradley, Samantha and Nicholas.
