A Celebration of Life was held Thursday at Calvary Baptist Church in Modesto for Gerald Wilson "Jerry" Lawler, 69, of Hughson. He died May 28, 2010.

Burial was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of Salas Brothers Funeral Home.

Born Dec. 3, 1940 in Hot Springs, Ark., to Horace and Dorothy Lawler, Jerry was a general contractor for 50 years. He enjoyed hunting with his bird dogs, and fishing. As a devout Christian, Mr. Lawler taught Sunday School and enjoyed reading books on heaven.

He leaves behind his wife of 21 years, Claudia Lawler of Hughson; five children, Debbie Suter of New Orleans, La., Steve Lawler of Danville, Vicki Shaffer of Rocklin, and Wendy Smith and Mary La Rosa, both of Hughson; and 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
