A memorial service was held at the Martins home in Woodville, Texas on Sunday for Glenda Lea Johnston, 71, of the Ceres-Modesto area. She died Nov. 27, 2008.
In the spring, the family plans a memorial in the Sierra Nevada where she and family loved to go fishing and camping.
Born Jan. 6, 1937 in Taft, Glenda was a lifetime resident of the Modesto/Ceres area. The last two years she resided in Woodville, Texas to be near her youngest daughter in the piney woods of east Texas. Mrs. Johnston enjoyed gardening and landscaping, and was fascinated by the natural world, archaeology and astronomy. Glenda was a retired employee of the Kmart in Ceres.
She leaves behind her children, Steve Allen, Leta Steely, Kenneth Spradling, Kimberly Castillo, and John Freeman, all of the Modesto/Ceres area and Cheri Lynne Martin; two brothers, Gary Perry and David Perry, both of Modesto; and sister Cherilyn Mancini of Modesto; and 20 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents Kenneth Howard Perry and Corrine Mallory Perry.
