A memorial service was held Monday at Lakewood Funeral Home for lifelong Hughson resident Grant Paterson, 88. He died Oct. 29, 2007 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.

Born Dec. 15, 1918, Mr. Paterson was a lifelong resident of the Hughson area except for his absence while serving in the Army during World War II. He had a love of farming and was always interested in the latest equipment and cultural practices. His involvement with day-to-day work in the orchards continued to the end. He was active in agricultural organizations, serving as a director of the California Canning Peach Association and the Freestone Peach Association. Mr. Paterson was also a founding director of the Pacific Coast Producers cooperative cannery. He also served as president of the Growers Harvesting Committee and secretary of the Stanislaus County Farm Bureau.

Mr. Paterson was a member of the Hughson United Methodist Church and for many years was the Scoutmaster for Troop 27 in Hughson.

He leaves behind two sons, Alan Paterson of Hughson and Craig Paterson of Fairfield; and four grandchildren and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy L. Paterson.
