Allen Mortuary was in charge of arrangements for Irving Elton Smith, 96, of Hughson. He died last month.

Born in April 1914, Irving was raised on the eastern shore of Virginia. He served in World War II and the Korean War, and retired from the New York City Police Department after a 24-year career.

He leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Helen Smith of Hughson; his four children, Peter G. Smith of Staten Island, N.Y., John H. Smith of Denair, Betsy Leibu of Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y., and Peggy Anne Tressler of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Helen Hardy or Richmond Hill, Ga.; and 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
