A funeral was held Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church for James Clair Brazelton, 66, of Modesto. The former Ceres resident died Sept. 10, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Modesto.
Interment was at Lakewood Memorial Park under the direction of the McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs.
Born Sept. 3, 1941, Mr. Brazelton was a native of Goldendale, Wash., born to Alva and Doris Brazelton.
Mr. Brazelton joined the Stanislaus County District Attorney's office in 1985, was appointed as district attorney in 1996 and retired July 31, 2005. His law enforcement career began in 1963 in Bakersfield. In 1968 Mr. Brazelton accepted a position with the Orange Police Department while attending Western State University College of Law in Anaheim. He received his law degree in 1974 and spent the next 11 years in private practice.
Mr. Brazelton served on the board of directors and as president of numerous law enforcement and community organizations. He continued to serve on the board of directors of the Carole Sund-Carrington Memorial Reward Fund. He was a long standing member of Modesto 500 Lions Club and Stanislaus Civil War Association.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 20 years, Patricia Brazelton; his sons, Mark Brazelton of Medford, Ore., Matt Brazelton of Portland, Ore., Chris Brazelton of Oregon and James J. Bushner of San Francisco.
