A Celebration of Life was held Friday at Samaritan Village in Hughson for Joan Evelyn Vaughn, 75, of Hughson. She died peacefully at her home on Feb. 7, 2011.
Born Dec. 23, 1935 in Modesto to Carl and Evelyn Peterson, Joan spent most of her years in both Turlock and Modesto. Joan graduated from Modesto High School in 1954 and married her high school sweetheart, Richard F. Vaughn. For over 30 years she worked as the office manager for dermatologist Dr. Rita Chafkin. Two years ago she moved to Samaritan Village in Hughson. She enjoyed traveling, shopping, following the Giants and 49ers and being with her dog, Gigi.
She leaves behind two daughters, Debbi Sperry of Turlock and Julie Stephens of Modesto; two grandchildren, Jennifer Hall and Douglas Sperry, both of Turlock; and two great-grandsons, Jackson Hall and Austin Hall of Turlock. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister Marianne Greenwood.
