Private services were held Saturday for Joe Wickham, 70, of Ripon. He died July 27, 2011 at his home.

Born Dec. 23, 1941, in Charleston, Ill., to Clifford and Virginia Wickham, Joe attended Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo and enlisted in the Marine Corp. He worked at Duel Vocational Correctional Institute, while completing his educational degrees. He earned his master's degree in Education from California State University, Stanislaus. Mr. Wickham was the founding principal of Neil Hafley Elementary School in Manteca, where he served for 19 years. He was a dedicated educator for Manteca schools since 1972, retiring in 2003. He assumed administrative interim assignments in Patterson, Riverbank, Manteca, and Stanislaus County. Joe enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing, and barbecuing salmon and never missed a game of golf, softball, or basketball.

He leaves behind his wife, Denise Wickham of Ripon; his daughters, Jennifer Wickham of Ripon and Elizabeth; and his sister, Mary Shinabargar of Burlington, Wisc.
