A Celebration of Life was held Saturday at Ceres Christian Church for Peggy Saabye-Salter, 80, of Ceres. She died Dec. 10, 2011 following a short battle with cancer.

Interment was private.

Born Feb. 5, 1931, Peggy lived in the Ceres and Modesto area most of her life. She graduated from Ripon High School. She served on the El Vista PTA Board for many years, sang in the Mothers of Note group, and was even on TV with them several times. Peggy was active in ministry at Ceres Christian Church for over 30 years. She served on the board for women's ministry, handling foods for funerals and families just home from the hospital, sang in the choir and helped lead worship at women's retreats. She especially loved being with her family at gatherings.

She leaves behind her husband, Wayne Salter of Ceres, her children, Howard Saabye of Modesto, and Melody Dias and Lars Saabye, both of Ceres; her stepchildren, Claudia Grubeck of Ceres, Jim Salter of Hughson, Tim Salter of Ceres, Tom Salter of Antelope and Jeanne Lackey of Ceres; her brother, Ron Logan; her grandchildren, Shane Thorington, Brandon Thorington, Suede Thorington, Janell Haak, Ruben Dias, Maria Shugart, Cailin Saabye and Josie Saabye; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by first husband Howard Saabye, and daughter Karen Saabye.
