A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Salas Brothers Funeral Chapel, 419 Scenic Dr., Modesto, for Penny Lynn McColloch Tyrell, 50, of Modesto. She died peacefully in Modesto on March 17, 2010.

Interment will be private.

Born Jan. 26, 1960 in Sonora to James and Janice McColloch, Penny was raised in the Modesto area. She graduated from Downey High School in 1978, and went on to receive her bachelor's degree in Education, and her teaching credential from California State University, Stanislaus in 1982. Mrs. Tyrell also became a National Board Certified Educator. Penny had spent 27 years teaching in Ceres, starting out in a regular classroom, but becoming a Special Education Resource teacher at Caswell Elementary School. She enjoyed wonderful dinners and wine tasting trips, and watching her children's soccer games, gymnastics practices, and musical recitals.

She leaves behind her husband, Luke Tyrell of Modesto; her children, Nicholas Tyrell and Samantha Tyrell; her brother, James Roy McColloch; and her parents, James and Janice McColloch. She was preceded in death by sister Tammy Lee McColloch in 1999.

Remembrances may be sent to the Penny Tyrell Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1800 N. Central Avenue, Ceres, CA 95307.
