Visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15 at Allen Mortuary in Turlock for Raymond Douglas Edman, Jr., 62, of Ceres. He died Dec. 2, 2008 at the V.A. Medical Center in Palo Alto.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at Allen Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the San Joaquin Valley National Cemetery near Santa Nella.

Born January 1946 in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Raymond and Lucy Edman, Raymond was raised in Chesterton, Ind., and graduated from Clayton Valley High School in Concord in 1964. He served in the Army during the Vietnam Conflict as an E-5. He had been shot down twice and was injured both times. Raymond received the Bronze Star. After the service, he lived in the Bay Area and worked for Systron-Donner Electronics. Mr. Edman worked as a heating and air conditioning technician for 15 years. He made the Valley his home for 30 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans.

He leaves behind his mother, Lucy Gilliam of Ceres; two brothers, Glen Edman of Clovis and Mark Edman of Chanhassen, Minn.; and two sisters, Linda Edman of Ceres, and Brenda Borrell of Hughson. He was preceded in death by father Dr. Raymond Edman.
