Robert Wesley Irons

A memorial service was held Saturday at Harvest Presbyterian Church for Robert Wesley Irons, 84, of Ceres. He died June 22, 2009.

Born Jan. 11, 1925 in San Jose, Bob was the son of Madeline Irons and Dr. Wesley Irons. He grew up in San Jose and Los Angeles. After graduation from high school Bob served in the Navy on the USS Lexington as a pharmacist mate during World War II. After the war he attended San Jose State University where he received his bachelors' and masters' degrees in Education. He was a teacher and administrator for 30 years in various California counties and after retirement he supervised student teachers for Chapman University and California State University, Stanislaus. Mr. Irons was interested in natural history, genealogy, and computers. He was a docent for the Great Valley Museum. He belonged to the Masons.

He leaves his wife of 58 years, Virginia Irons of Ceres; his children, Debra Dooley of Ceres, Randy Irons and Christopher Irons; a brother, Dr. Richard Irons; and a sister, Marilyn Nagle; and six grandchildren and one great-grandson.
