Funeral services have been held for Roy Bill Modgling, 90, of Modesto. He died Feb. 16, 2009 at the Alexander Cohen Hospice House in Hughson with son Karl Modgling at his side.

Burial was Thursday at Loma Vista Memorial Park in Fullerton.

Born Nov. 29, 1918 in Healton, Okla., Roy Bill was raised in the Seminole, Okla., area. He served in the Army during World War II, and was stationed in England in 1942 and later served in the North Africa and Italy campaign. He married Alyine Smith on June 15 1945, the start of a 63-year marriage. He lived in San Angelo, Texas where his sons were born. He then lived in Fullerton and Anaheim. Mr. Modgling was a letter carrier and worked over 30 years before retirement in 1982. Roy Bill was faithful member of the Church of Christ for over 70 years. As a song leader, he enjoyed singing hymns.

He leaves behind his wife, Alyine Modgling; son Karl Douglas Modgling of Modesto; his brother, T.L. Modgling of Dallas, Texas; and five grandchildren, John David Modgling, Sarah Alyine Modgling, Kristopher Modgling, Karleen Barrell and Kandice Modgling. He was preceded in death by son John Wesly Modgling in 1977 and his parents, Thomas Leamon and Sarah Ella Modgling.
