A memorial service was held Friday at First Baptist Church in Hughson for Ruby Pauline Park Harlow, 92, of Hughson. She died May 16, 2009.

A graveside service followed at Lakewood Memorial Park under the arrangements of Lakewood Funeral Home.

Born Nov. 30, 1916, Mrs. Harlow was a resident of Hughson for most of her life. After graduating from Hughson High School, Ruby attended BIOLA College (the Bible Institute of Los Angeles) and was later employed as a secretary at Modesto Junior College for almost 20 years. Ruby married Vernon Harlow on Nov. 23, 1956 at First Baptist Church of Hughson. This was the same church where Ruby began her tradition of reciting verses, poems and singing songs as a very small child. She continued her faithful service to the church throughout her life serving as a Sunday School teacher and superintendent, youth leader, choir director, woman's ministry leader, and church secretary. Mrs. Harlow was also considered the church's historian. A classroom at her church where she taught for many years is affectionately referred to as "Ruby's Room." Many of her students fondly recall her knowledge of Scripture, her love for the Lord and her commitment to teaching His Word. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and game shows. Always patriotic, Ruby volunteered for many years as an election precinct worker.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Harlow.

Remembrances may be sent to First Baptist Church of Hughson, P.O. Box 296, Hughson, CA 95326.
