S. Hoyt Vanderpool

A funeral was held April 20 at First Baptist Church for S. Hoyt Vanderpool, 76, of Modesto. The former Ceres resident died Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center.

A graveside service was held Thursday afternoon at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks. The Colonial Chapel of Franklin & Downs in charge of arrangements.

Born March 6, 1929, Mr. Vanderpool was a native of Howey, Fla., and lived in Modesto for 22 years. Previously he lived in Rancho Cordova and Ceres. Mr. Vanderpool was a graduate of Ceres High School. He owned and operated Vanco Tax Service for 15 years, and he was a banker for 20 years before that. Mr. Vanderpool was a member of First Baptist Church in Modesto and served as chairman of the church banking committee. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.

He leaves behind his wife, Mildred "Midge" Vanderpool of Modesto; children, Sonja Vanderpool and Rhonda Stewart, both of Sacramento, and David Vanderpool of Rancho Cordova; stepchildren, Kent Marlett, Keefe Marlett and Karen Keathley, all of Modesto; mother, Lorene E. Johnson of Modesto; sister, Reba Giddens of Ceres; and five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hazel Vanderpool; and a son, Rick Vanderpool.
