Lander, Wyoming resident Sammey Dale Lewis died at his home Saturday morning, Dec. 14, 2013 at the age of 75.

A memorial service will be held at Hudson's Funeral Home, Chapel of Hope, in Lander, Wyoming at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27. A carry-in gathering will be held following the service at the Elks Lodge, 492 Lincoln Street, Lander, Wyo.

Sammey Dale Lewis was born in Clinton, Okla., to Edith Mae (Knight) and Samuel H. Lewis Jr. He moved with his family to Ceres in 1944. After graduating from Ceres High School in 1957, Sammey went to work for the Defense Logistics Agency in Tracy during which time he took a leave of absence to serve in the U.S. Army. After being honorably discharged from the service, Sammey returned to work for the Defense depot until he retired in 1993 after 33 years of service.

Sammey was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to travel with his wife, Darlene, and their grandchildren. They traveled extensively before settling in Lander in 1995 to live out Sammey's dream of hunting, fishing and living in Wyoming.

Sammey is survived by Darlene, his wife of 35 years; his daughters, Karen Lewis of Lander, Wyo., Beth Bentley (Bill) of Kingsport, Tenn., Shelley Stevenson (Jim) of Lander, Wyo., Amy Nichols (Tim) of Lander, Wyo.; his son, Dale Lewis (Jennette) of Lander, Wyo.; his brother, John H. Lewis (Betty)of Reno, Nev.; 10 grandchildren, Gary Tyler, Brandon Van Heeringen (Amanda), Jessica Nichols, James Stevenson, Hannah Callahan (Chris), Timmy Nichols, Bailey Lewis, Jacob Nichols, Eli Bentley and Xavier Stover; and seven great-grandchildren, Daren Whelan, Emily Tyler, Sam Tyler, Katy Van Heeringen, Jacob Van Heeringen, Jaiden Callahan, and Levi Garrett; and numerous other beloved family and friends.

Sammey was preceded in death by his parents and sister Valora Jean Bezanson.
