A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel at Samaritan Village, 7700 Fox Road, Hughson, for Sylvia Gertrude Cosgrove, 92, of Hughson. She died Dec. 22, 2009 at Samaritan Village with her family by her side.

There will be no graveside service.

Born Nov. 29, 1917 to Ruth Leonard and Harry Murlin Stout, Sylvia lived most of her adult life in Modesto before moving to Hughson in 2001. She married George Maurice Cosgrove on June 2, 1939 and had three children, Michael, Michele and Kevin Cosgrove. After raising her children Mrs. Cosgrove served as a teacher's aide in the Modesto school system. She also worked for the city of Modesto before retiring in 1977. Gertrude enjoyed her retirement years as a volunteer driver taking cancer patients to their appointments and working in the local thrift shop. She loved traveling with her husband of 58 years to many new and interesting places and visiting with her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, political programs and playing bingo. She truly enjoyed her time at Samaritan Village.

She leaves behind her three children, Michael Cosgrove, Kevin Cosgrove and Michele Rath; and seven grandchildren, Erin, Ryan, Brian, Corey, Jeffrey, Kelly and Sean; and several great grandchildren.
