Visitation will be held between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Lakewood Memorial Home for Ted F. Fritz, 72, of Turlock. He died Oct. 25, 2008 at his home surrounded by family members.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood Funeral Chapel.

Ted was born May 13, 1936 to Ted and Rilda Fritz in Hughson. He graduated from the first graduating class of Downey High School in Modesto. Ted owned and operated Fritz Auto Wreckers of Turlock in the 1960s. For 35 years Mr. Fritz drove trucks starting in the 1970s. He enjoyed going to auctions, flea markets and holding yard sales. Mr. Fritz began racing cars in 1955 on a track in Modesto and raced at several California tracks including Riverside, Ontario, and Laguna Seca. He earned two state racing championships.

Ted also once owned and flew his own airplane and he enjoyed motorcycles, dirt biking and dune buggies. He also liked to bowl, play pool tournaments, and play the mandolin, guitar and banjo. Ted loved to travel and had been to most of the 50 states. He loved spending time with family and friends.

Mr. Fritz belonged to the Moose Lodge and Clampers.

Ted was married 43 years to his high school sweetheart, Anita Villines.

He leaves behind three children, Kathy Fritz of Ceres, Linda Wardle of Turlock and Teddy Fritz of Turlock; eight grandchildren, Chris Gianotti, T.J. Cornish , Rachel Lopez, Kadie Wardle, Jackie Wardle, Ryan Wardle, Teddy Fritz and Charles Fritz; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Anita Fritz, his parents and brother Woody.
