Services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday), at the Ceres Chapel of Franklin and Downs for Vernon Ralph Mourer, 70, of Waterford. The former Ceres resident died Sept. 23, 2008.
Services will conclude at the chapel.
Born Nov. 29, 1937, in Holly, Colo., Vernon graduated from Ceres High School in 1955 and immediately joined the Navy, serving until 1961. He worked for E.&J. Gallo Winery for 40 years as a master mechanic. Mr. Mourer enjoyed working on old tractors with his brother-in-law Albert Hinkle, and also enjoyed fishing and watching NASCAR racing.
He leaves behind his wife of 20 years, Doris Ann Mourer of Waterford; his children, Teresa McKelvey, and Robert Mourer; his step-daughter, Joni Costa; his brother, Charles Mourer; his father, Vernon K. Mourer of Oregon; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by first wife, Lorraine Marie Mourer, and mother Nettie Pearl Mourer.
Remembrances may be sent to the First Southern Baptist Church, 132 E Street, Waterford, CA 95386.
