Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Grace Lutheran Church, 617 W. Orangeburg Ave., Modesto, for Virgil Kuehn, 93, of Ceres. He died July 30, 2011.

Born July 4, 1918 in Lidgerwood, N.D., to John and Martha Kuehn, Virgil worked on his family's farm until called to service in World War II. He served overseas in both Germany and France, receiving two Purple Hearts and earning the rank of staff sergeant. He returned from the war to work the family farm a few years before moving to St. Paul, Minn., where he worked at the Ford Motor Plant. He married Marion Lund of Lake Benton, Minn. in November of 1953 and the two made their home in Minneapolis. In 1959 Virgil, Marion and their son Paul moved to Richfield, Minn., where Virgil began working for Lavon Furniture Manufacturing. After retiring he continued to work independently making and repairing furniture until moving to Ceres in 1990. He remained active in the Ceres VFW and his church.

He leaves behind his son, Paul Kuehn; his sister, Grace Siler of Burnsville, Minn.; his grandchildren, Soren Kuehn and Phillip Kuehn of Modesto, and Emily Seneca of Mililani, Hi.
