A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakewood Funeral Home, for Vivian Louise Shaver, 93, of Hughson. She died recently.

A graveside service will follow. A reception will be held at the Hughson Senior Citizens Community Center.

Born May 28, 1914, Mrs. Shaver grew up in Clinton, Ark., born to Lige and Anna Lemings. After the death of her mother when she was three, the family moved to Roswell, N.M. She enjoyed dancing and met her future husband, John Shaver, at a dance. They married in Roswell and had their only child, Darell in 1934. When Darell was a year old, they moved to Ceres where they bought acreage and John built a house and did ranch work. Mrs. Shaver was an egg candler.

She was an involved parent and when Darell married, the Shavers sold their Ceres ranch and bought a ranch in Hughson. She helped John raise boysenberries and almonds on their 20 acres. She always loved the outdoors. She enjoyed working outdoors as well as fishing.

Mrs. Shaver became active in the Hughson Senior Citizens Center.

She leaves behind her son, Darell Shaver; her half-brother Kenneth Lemings of Modesto; a half-sister, Freda Gardner; her grandson, Michael Shaver of Hughson; great-granddaughter Chelsea Shaver of Hughson; her daughter-in-law, Rosalie Shaver of Modesto; three step-grandchildren, Jeff Lundquist and Jennifer Wright, both of Modesto, and Andrea Pixton of Antioch; numerous step-great-grandchildren, including Trisa Harris and Laci Apodaca, both of Modesto, Jason Lundquist of North Carolina, Lauren Morley of Livermore, Lindsey Lundquist and Kelly Lundquist, both of Modesto, Brenton Zumwalt of Riverbank, Callie Wright of Modesto and Cameron Pixton, Joshua Pixton and Erik Pixton, all of Antioch. She was prededed in death by her husband.
