Human-induced abortions are result of mankind’s original sin
Letters to Editor.jpg

Editor, Ceres Courier,

Responding to an individual who asked, “Why does God or other deity get a pass from causing so many abortions in USA?,” he stated that abortion is a cessation of pregnancy by human interference, while a miscarriage is a cessation of pregnancy by God (or nature, or whatever you believe in) — claiming that as many as 50% of pregnancies [a gross exaggeration] end in miscarriage. “Therefore, God, nature … or whatever other name your creator goes by … is the biggest abortionist on earth” ... concluding: “I will patiently await any explanation of how it is that God, or any other deity, gets a pass when he/she/it aborts a fetus, and humans are vilified for the very same behavior.”

My answer is that the world’s wisdom leaves much to be desired, but true wisdom is all about the sovereignty of God. There is a huge gap between the Creator and the creature, God having everything in His hands – including you and me. For, as the Prophet Isaiah wrote: “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.” (Isaiah 40:28). God’s Word also tells us that He is the sustainer of everything – including a world that was once perfect but became sadly broken after our initial parents (Adam & Eve) disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden. As a result, there are now two kinds of people: those who have a biblical belief system and know it, and those who have a non-biblical belief system but don’t know it (or won’t admit it).

Belief systems are important, relating as they do to two different destinies. Sooner or later, people will ask themselves: “Where will I spend more time, on this side of the grave or the other?” Those insisting that the universe is self-existing had better be right, since we will all spend eternity somewhere. As Paul wrote (quoting Moses): “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.” (Romans 9:15).  The question is, who are we to talk back to God? Shall what is formed say to Him who formed it, “Why did you make me like this?” Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use, as in Romans 9:21?

In our broken world, human-induced abortions are the result of mankind’s original sin. The result is condemnation of God, even for miscarriages. But, who are we to condemn God for miscarriages, since they too are the result of human sin? Psalm 14 tells us that God looks down from Heaven to see if there are any who are wise. Those rejecting Him see no need to obey His words, but there are serious consequences.

Our comfort is that we need never fear living, providing we fear the living God! And, who is to know whether or not God may one day resurrect miscarried fetuses for believing parents? Yes, there are critical choices to be made, but God enables us to make them. And, yes, abortion (taking a human life) can be forgiven (as can all human sin, including miscarriages resulting from humanity’s original Fall). But forgiveness is only through believing faith in the substitutionary death of Christ Jesus.

In summary, we should never miss the fact that there are two belief systems – one leading to eternal joy (God’s sheep responding to His call); the other to eternal damnation (unrepentant sinners – like goats – ignoring or blaming Him). If you miss that, fall down on your knees and pray that you will not be outside the Sheep Fold, missing out on everything!

To the praise of God’s glory,

Mel. Mulder, MD
