Sept. 19 is the National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
This observance is one of six days throughout the year that Congress has mandated the flying of the National League of Families' POW/MIA flag. This day is set aside to honor those who remain missing and those who suffered starvation, isolation, fear, and uncertainty, during wartime captivity. Observances are annually held on the third Friday of September on military installations, ships at sea, state capitols, schools and veterans' facilities.

Please take a moment on the 19th to reflect on the continuing efforts to bring home themore than 83,000 Americans who are missing from World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and the Gulf War conflicts.
