The George Costa Ball Field Complex at Smyrna Park was the host site for the 2012 Pony Baseball Mustang-Super Regionals, July 20-24.

"It was definitely nice being at home," Ceres Blaze 10-and-under travel team head coach Orlando Leon said. "There was a lot of excitement."

The Blaze placed fifth with a 1-2 record.

Blossom Valley and Sierra Valley finished first and second, respectively.

Brentwood, Morgan Hill, Paso Robles, Vacaville and Salinas also competed.

"There were some stacked teams there," Leon said. "We got kids from our league only. We knew it was going to be tough."

Salinas overwhelmed Ceres 12-2 in the opening round on July 20.

The Blaze rebounded with a 10-2 win over Vacaville on July 21.

Orlando Leon Jr. pitched and starred on offense.

He batted 4-for-4 from the plate with two doubles.

Ceres lost 4-2 to Paso Robles in an elimination game on July 22.

Mikey Duran pitched.

The Blaze loaded the bases with two down in the third inning. Paso Robles ended the threat when its third baseman snared Cody Brockman's hard-hit line drive.

"Everybody played hard the last two games," Leon said. "Everybody was focused. I'm pleased with how we finished."

Ceres accomplished a lot this year.

The Blaze finished first twice and second three times.

"It's tough to end the season with a loss," Leon said. "But I'm proud of the way the kids played. We earned our way to Super Regionals."
