Boys track team now 4-1 in CCC

The Ceres High boys track and field team defeated Grace Davis by 19 points, 72-53, in Central California Conference action in Ceres on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-1 in league standings.

"We're scoring lots of points in different events," said Ceres coach Drew Brown. "That's how we're able to win."

The 4x100 relay team of Ryan Leazer, Brandon Crawford, Dingko Luangchai and Charlie Cunha placed first in 45.1 seconds.

Davis' foursome almost handed Leazer, Crawford, Luangchai and Cunha their first loss in league.

"They were disqualified for passing (the baton) out of the zone, which is against the rules," Brown said.

James Gmachowski won the shot put with a throw of 40 feet, 7 inches and the discus with a personal-best toss of 123 feet.

"He keeps getting better and better," Brown said.

Crawford pulled a hamstring while winning the 100-meter dash in 11.1 seconds.

Luangchai won the high jump. The sophomore cleared 6 feet on his second attempt.

He also placed second in the triple jump at 40 feet and third in the long jump at 19 feet, 10 inches.

Leazer won the 200 in 23.6 seconds and placed second in the 100 in 11.3 seconds.

Chris Gregg placed second in the 110 hurdles in 17.18 seconds and 300 hurdles in 45.5 seconds.

Ross Tate placed second in the high jump at 5-10.

Kevin Dupree placed fourth in the long jump at 19-9 and fifth in the triple jump at 39-6 and high jump at 5-8.

James Walcott placed fourth in the mile in 5:13.

John Lopez placed fourth in the 400 in a personal-record time 57.18 seconds.

Benny Perez placed fourth in the two-mile run in 11:56.

Jorge Leal placed fifth in the 800 in 2:27.

David Vega placed fifth in the 3,200 in 12:47.

Chris Lombrana placed fifth in the 110 hurdles in 20.12 seconds.

JV boys

A handful of Ceres' athletes turned in strong performances while losing 56-27 to the Davis Spartans in Ceres on Wednesday.

Andrew Chipponeri won the 400 in a personal-best time 1:02 and 800 in 2:27.

Ray Green placed second in the high jump at 5-0 and fourth in the long jump at 16-4.

Paul Kang placed second in the 110 hurdles in 19.62 seconds.

Josh Garcia placed third in the 400 in 1:04.04.
